Failed Pipework – NHS Hospital
The Problem
> Our client had a major issue at an NHS Hospital with a pipe leakage/failure at multiple points on their LTHW system.

3D Scanning & Thermal Expansion Design/Strategy
Goal
> Merivale were instructed to investigate the cause of the failure and design a solution to remedy.
Approach
We conducted full 3D scans of the affected areas and used this information along with our site surveys to conclude that the failures were occurring at multiple locations on the Victaulic couplings due to uncontrolled thermal expansion. We used computational analysis along with our engineering expertise and experience to work with the client to carry out a redesign of the thermal expansion strategy.
Final Result
The client updated the pipework to our design, reducing the risk of future failures. Once installed, Merivale conducted a sign-off visit to ensure the installation was compliant with our design. The project was signed off by our engineers and the LTHW system is now safe, and compliant to BS EN13480-3.
